When seeking candidates to fill a job vacancy, companies benefit from offering the position first to internal employees. Recruiting and promoting employees from within your organization can save considerable costs on recruitment and increase employee retention and morale. Utilizing the below principals can help your company find success with internal job posting(s).
- Establish ground rules first. Decide if there are any areas that might disqualify an employee, such as someone who has been with your company less than six months, someone on a performance improvement plan, or someone who has received corrective action such as a written warning within the last six months.
- Maintain professionalism. Although it is internal, the company should still ensure all professional measures are taken, such as having a job description with clear required qualifications, having employees fill out an application and go through the interview process, and maintaining respectful communication with all who applied.
- Provide equal opportunities. If there is no clear person in line to promote, open the position to all employees equally.
