On January 25, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that it has released IRS2Go, a free smartphone application for iPhones and Androids. With its release, the IRS hopes to become more accessible and user friendly to taxpayers, using modern technology. The app is designed to assist taxpayers in three areas:
- Refund Status
After entering secured, encrypted personal information, taxpayers can check the status of their income tax refunds. E-filers will be able to access information approximately 72 hours after filing, while paper returns will take longer to update.
- Tax Updates
Taxpayers can sign up to receive brief email tax tips from the IRS. Emails are sent daily during tax season, then periodically thereafter.
- IRS on Twitter
Taxpayers can easily follow the IRS its Twitter feed, @IRSnews to get the latest in federal tax news.
iPhone and Android users can download the free IRS2Go application by visiting the Apple App Store or Android Marketplace.
