Nextep announced that Thomas A. Shehan has been named the new Chief Sales and Marketing officer. Shehan is a proven sales and marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience in the field of Human Resource Outsourcing. Most recently, he was Area President, General Manager of the Midwest Region of ADP Totalsource, the Professional Employer Division of publicly traded ADP.
“We are fortunate to have a person of Tom’s caliber join Nextep,” said Brian Fayak, Nextep President and Chief Executive Officer. “The combination of his sales leadership and experience in Human Resource Outsourcing is a valuable asset.
Prior to ADP Totalsource, Shehan was Senior Vice President of Sales for a California venture-backed PEO. He has also held various senior-level positions with Staff Leasing (now Gevity HR). Shehan began his career with Paychex, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio.

Brian Fayak Named to NAPEO Board
Nextep President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Fayak was named to the National Association of Professional Employer Organization’s (NAPEO) Board of Directors for the 2007 through 2008 term. NAPEO is the recognized national trade association of the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and Human Resource Outsourcing (HRO) industry representing more than 325 professional employer organizations nationwide.
Fayak was elected to serve as a Director by a vote of the national membership during an annual conference in mid-September. “I am honored to serve on NAPEO’s Board, and I welcome the opportunity to advance the professionalism and recognition of our industry,” Fayak said. “I will work hard to ensure that NAPEO’s programs deliver exactly what PEO leaders need in a changing and challenging business climate.”
Nextep Chief Operating Officer Buck Irwin was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium (OKEthics). OkEthics is an organization consisting of business leaders and educators committed to gaining recognition for Oklahoma as a state that values integrity in business dealings.
Irwin also serves as President for the Moore/Norman chapter of OK Ethics. As President, Irwin serves as a voting member of the Consortium and will be responsible for Chapter growth.
Prior to joining Nextep, Mr. Irwin served in various management roles for Fortune 500 companies including The Hartford, Bridgestone/Firestone, and Amoco. He has more than 18 years of experience as a senior level executive in operations, risk management, human resources, workers' compensation, health and safety, corporate and facility security and benefits procurement and administration. Mr. Irwin earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Nextep Chief Financial Officer Dean York was named to the Employer Service Assurance Corporation’s (ESAC) Board of Directors. York’s two year term began on September 10, 2006 and an appointment to a specific committee on the board will follow later.
York was one of several Human Resources Outsourcing professionals nominated for the position. The ESAC Board reviewed the resumes of all the nominees, and based on industry experience and professional credentials, York was chosen for the position.
ESAC provides financial assurance to clients through surety bonds held by the Employer Services Trust on behalf of each participating Human Resource Outsourcing firm. Nextep was accredited and became one of only 21 HROs nationwide to attain in ESAC’s Client Assurance Program in September 2004.
